Copper prices fell to their lowest level since July, as drastic changes in the US political situation may weaken the two pillars of the rise in copper prices: the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure and the risk of the US imposing import tariffs on copper. After the Democratic Party swept through the US Congress, investors feared that AI regulations would be tightened, technology stocks fell sharply, and the trend of capital escaping from risky assets also hit the industrial metals market. On top of the 1.2% drop on Thursday, copper prices once fell more than 1% on Friday, approaching $13,700 per tonne. Copper is used for cabling and wiring in data centers and power equipment.
