Indosat looked like a telecom set up for steady AI cloud expansion and network upgrades, yet the scorecard for 2026 tells a different story. Investors who held Indosat from the start of the year are down 36.7%, including dividends. If you had been weighing that decision on 1 January, with consensus expecting revenue growth of 6.6% and a profit margin near 10.9% within three years, what exactly did that original thesis fail to factor in?
A Narrative on Simply Wall St is one investor's written case for a company, with its growth, margin and multiple assumptions spelled out. Those assumptions imply an estimated Fair Value.

The shares cost IDR2,320 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Indosat then had to choose between two very different but reasonable stories.
On the optimistic side, the bullish narrative put fair value at IDR2,642 and focused on AI cloud services plus network upgrades. In that view, Indosat was assumed to grow revenue 6.6% a year and increase profit margin to 10.9% within three years.
The bearish case anchored on a fair value of IDR1,600 and emphasized shrinking legacy voice and SMS revenues, where over the top apps were expected to keep pressuring high margin services and overall profitability.
The Q3 2026 update gave investors one hard fact to work with. Indosat reported revenue of IDR14,051,989m and net income of IDR612,864m, compared with IDR14,051,989m and IDR1,252,096m a year earlier. Net margin moved from 8.9% to 4.1%. That challenged the optimistic thesis that higher AI cloud and network spending would quickly lift profitability.
The main lesson is simple. When a story leans on margin expansion, investors need to track the reported net margin line every quarter and check whether it is actually moving closer to the stated target.
Indosat trades at IDR1,425 today, with shareholders down 36.7% from the start of the year. The selected Narrative still places Fair Value above that level, framing the gap around a mix of AI Neocloud, fibre monetisation and tighter cost control.
The core bet for a buyer now is that Indosat converts AI and ARPU focused offers into durable cash generation while containing personnel and network expenses.
"The main thing that has to go right is that Indosat converts its AI Neocloud and FiberCo plans into durable cash generation while keeping personnel and network costs under control as 5G and GPU spending ramps."
