In response to the recent announcement by the US of large-scale arms sales to Taiwan, Myanmar Defense and Security Commission's press release team leader Zuo Mintun said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters on December 31 that the US should strictly abide by the communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US. The communiqué clearly recognizes that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China, and Taiwan is a part of China. Cho Min-tun reiterated that Myanmar has always been a firm supporter of the one-China principle. This was the case in the past, and it is still unswerving now. Cho Min-tun said, “Taiwan is a part of China, and the Taiwan issue is solely an internal affair of China,” and Myanmar denounces any interference by outside forces. Cho Min-tun said that today's world is no longer an era where individual countries are allowed to exercise hegemony. The international community is moving in the direction of multipolarization, and hegemonic acts that bully the weak should have no foothold.
