Singapore's Ministry of Education recently announced that starting from January 2026, it will implement a stricter ban on the use of smartphones and smartwatches in middle schools across the country, and simultaneously adjust the automatic nighttime shutdown time of students' learning devices to promote the physical and mental health of young people. According to the new regulations, not only are Singaporean middle school students not allowed to use smartphones and smart watches during class, including other school hours such as class breaks and extracurricular activities, but they also need to store their devices in designated areas to make the campus “phone-free.” It can only be used in special circumstances with the approval of the school.
