On January 2, local time, Yemen's southern armed forces issued a statement saying that their forces are carrying out so-called “national defense battles” in various strategic directions under the framework of “Operation Bright Future.” The statement said that on the morning of the same day, a new armed conflict broke out in the direction of Yemen's Hadramaut province, and the southern armed forces successfully repelled a large-scale attack. The statement alleges that the attack was carried out by “Muslim Brotherhood Armed Forces” and “Al-Qaida”, and that it received support from Saudi Arabia. At the same time, the statement stressed that the southern personnel belonging to the “Motherland Shield” forces had nothing to do with the related conflict. The statement also criticized Salim Hambashi, a member of the Yemeni President's Leadership Council and Governor of Hadramaou Province, saying that it “does not represent the position of Hadramaut and the people of the South,” and that the relevant statement only “endorses the position of others.”
