The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon issued a statement on the 2nd denouncing the IDF firing on the vicinity of a southern Lebanese peacekeeping patrol twice that day. The statement said that while patrolling near the village of Shuba earlier on the 2nd, peacekeepers reported that 15 light weapon bullets hit less than 50 meters away. Less than 20 minutes later, another patrol operating in the area reported that about 100 machine gun bullets had fallen about 50 metres from it. There were no casualties or equipment damage in either incident. The statement said that according to the peacekeepers' assessments, both shots came from Israeli military positions south of the “Blue Line” of the temporary border. UNIFIL then immediately requested the Israeli side to stop shooting through communication channels.
