The number of visitors to Hong Kong during the New Year holidays increased 40% year-on-year by about 950,000

The Zhitong Finance App learned that on January 5, an interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements led by Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration Chen Guoji said that the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays ended successfully yesterday. The overall number of visitors to Hong Kong from December 31, 2025 to January 4, 2026 was about 950,000, an increase of about 40% over the same period last year, and all aspects of receiving visitors to Hong Kong were running smoothly. Hong Kong recorded more than 740,000 inbound visitors from the Mainland, an increase of about 48% over the same period last year. The number of inbound visitors from non-mainland China was around 210,000, an increase of about 19%.

During the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays, the number of mainland visitors visited Hong Kong on January 1, with about 220,000 mainland visitors visiting Hong Kong. The port of entry most used by mainland visitors during this period was the High Speed Rail West Kowloon Control Point, followed by the Lok Ma Chau Branch Line Control Point.

In terms of mainland inbound tour groups, around 630 mainland inbound tour groups visited Hong Kong during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays, with overnight trips accounting for about 60%. The overall order of the tour group was good. Hotel occupancy rates are generally 90%.

Chen Guoji said that during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day holidays, it coincides with three consecutive public holidays (i.e. January 1 to 3) in Hong Kong. In addition, many events held in Hong Kong, including the New Year's Eve countdown, attracted many visitors to Hong Kong to experience the festive atmosphere. A series of festivals fully showcased the diverse charm of Hong Kong. It is very popular with the public and visitors, and the market atmosphere is lively.
