01:26 AM EST, 01/06/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European energy companies Eni (ENI.MI) and Repsol (REP.MC) are facing difficulties in recovering around $6 billion in gas and naphtha payments from Venezuela amid US pressure on foreign players for operating in the South American country, London's Financial Times reported Tuesday, citing two unnamed sources. The companies, which have been supplying large quantities of gas to Venezuela, jointly own the Perla gasfield off the Venezuelan coast. The gas payments stopped in March 2025 after the US threatened that the companies would face sanctions if they continued to take the payments. Eni and Repsol did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
