Germany's Berlin Mayor Wegner said on the 6th that the damage to Berlin's power supply system is a “terrorist” act and should not be viewed only as an ordinary incident of arson or vandalism. German News Agency reports that the German Federal Attorney General's Office has now taken over the investigation and will launch an investigation based on charges such as “participating in a terrorist organization and carrying out anti-constitutional acts of sabotage.” The power outage began on the 3rd of this month. A fire broke out on a suspension bridge on the Ter Ter Canal in southern Berlin, causing damage to several cables leading to the nearby Lichtfeld power plant. As a result, power outages occurred in most areas such as Wansse, Zellendorf, and Lichtfeld in southwestern Berlin, affecting 50,000 households as well as local nursing homes and hospitals. Some traffic lights and mobile networks were also unusable. A group calling itself the “Volcano Organization” issued an online statement on the 4th, claiming that it had caused this arson incident against the power supply facility and stated that its actions were “aimed at attacking the fossil energy industry.”
