According to a report by Sing Tao Headline on January 8, the Hong Kong Tai Po Fire Independent Commission is expected to officially begin hearings in mid-March this year. The hearing on the relevant instructions will begin in February. The independent committee will focus on two major directions, including causes and suggestions for improvement, and why there is a “siege” issue at Wang Fu Yuan. The report said that the Independent Commission has hired “Law Man Kam Law Firm” to carry out independent investigation work. The law firm has handled committee investigations into incidents involving excessive lead in drinking water and the Lamma shipwreck. According to reports, the investigation will focus on two major directions, including finding out the truth about the incident and making suggestions on what the government and relevant departments and agencies can optimize in incident prevention, emergency response, and follow-up handling. The Committee emphasized that the investigation was aimed at clarifying facts and lessons learned in order to improve the overall level of safety and response. On November 26, 2025, a fire broke out in several residential buildings in Wang Fu Yuen, a housing estate in Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong, killing at least 161 people. On December 12 of the same year, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Lee Ka-chiu, announced the establishment of an independent committee to examine the causes of the fire at Wang Fu Court in Tai Po and whether related maintenance works were illegal.
